Examples of what you will study in Year 10 include the following topics:
- Introduction to small business
- Showing enterprise
- Putting a business idea into practice
- The business start-up
- The economic context
You will sit your Unit 1 examination at the end of Year 10 which will count towards 25% of your final grade.
In Year 11 you will cover the following topics:
- Building a business
- Marketing
- Meeting customer needs
- Effective financial management
- Effective people management
- The wider world affecting business
Unit 2 is a controlled assessment which you will complete in Year 11. This is worth 25% of your final grade. The assessment allows you to complete research on a small local business. You are given a choice of five questions from which you have to select one to answer. The assessment allows for 6 hours of research time and then 3 hours of writing time.
Unit 3 is an examination that you will sit towards the end of Year 11. This is worth 50%of your final grade and the questions will cover everything that you have studied over the two year course.
Business Studies is concerned with all aspects of the world of work and covers both theory and practical elements to help you prepare for your future careers. Wherever possible we encourage you to develop your teamwork, problem solving, decision making and independent skills which businesses now consider vital in employees.
