The History Department at Winton Arts and Media College aims to develop in our students the ability to think critically and independently about people and events from the past.

Geography investigates the relationship between the Earth and its people. In Geography in KS3 at Winton, students study a variety of key issues, which aim to widen their knowledge about the World in which they live. Students undertake studies looking at various scales from evaluating tourism in Bournemouth, their local area. Students thoroughly enjoy appreciating the national advantage of hosting the London 2012 Olympic Games. On the Global scale students consider Population, in addition to Development.

 

In Key Stage 3 pupils receive one music lesson each week. The schemes of work cover a range of styles of music and prepare all pupils to be able to opt to take GCSE music at KS4.

At key stage 3 Drama is a discrete subject taught for one hour each week. Students are encouraged to develop an appreciation of the aesthetic and an understanding of performance, group skills and the history of theatre. At key stage 4 students can opt to take Drama GCSE which focuses on the key areas of creating, responding and evaluating.

Modern Design and Technology is a world away from the craft based activities of yesteryear. Embracing the 21st Century and importing the most modern of equipment revolutionises the way our students can work. Computer Aided Design (CAD) and Computer Aided Manufacture (CAM) help visualize and create products designed for real applications and people. Awareness of the value of materials and their impact on our environment make for more sophisticated and considerate consumers.
