In Key Stage 3 pupils receive one music lesson each week. The schemes of work cover a range of styles of music and prepare all pupils to be able to opt to take GCSE music at KS4.

GCSE music at KS4 follows the OCR syllabus. The Areas of Study for this exam are: My Music, Shared Music, Music for Dance and Descriptive Music. Assessment consists of a listening exam, two compositions based on the Areas of Study and two performances.

Pupils have the opportunity to learn to play a variety of instruments at Winton. These include guitar, percussion, flute, clarinet, saxophone and violin. Visiting teachers come into school once a week to give lessons. Pupils have a 20 minute lesson arranged on a rota basis so that they do not miss the same subject lesson each week.
