The Academies strive to ensure that all students reach their potential and develop a multitude of skills. The gifted and talented (G&T) programme at the Academies looks to identify outstanding talent and guide students to set themselves further targets and goals, making them truly talented locally, national and globally. The G&T programme runs each year, students are asked to self-nominate themselves into the programme, with potential guidance from teachers, coaches and parents.
Students can have talent in a range of areas, including sport, music, competitive games and art. Previous talents in the programme have been: fencing, chess, dancing and computer design. If students are successful in their bid, they will enter the programme, meeting regularly with our G&T lead and as a team. Students over the year will create a portfolio of their achievements, pushing themselves to beat personal bests, enter new competitions and develop their skills which will inevitably strengthen their talent. The programme is ongoing and hopes that mentored students will adopt the skills to balance extra-curricular activities and academic progress throughout their school lives. Students are encouraged to support the growth of their talent individually and across the Academy, becoming ambassadors for their activity whilst supporting others.
We are excited to use Teams as an online platform for delivering the programme, enabling students to balance their passion, studies and self development. The content of the programme is evolving and this year aims to provide a personalised course; covering broad topics such as mindset and time management, alongside careers guidance, dealing with sports injury and literature reviewing.
