Glenmoor & Winton Academies motto is "High Achievement, High Standards". We believe that every child matters and every lesson counts, creating well rounded citizens achieving academic excellence. Glenmoor & Winton is a highly inclusive school that caters for the needs of all students. We ensure our most able students are stretched academically and students with special educational needs and disabilities are expertly supported, allowing the Academies to ensure the best in everyone.
Situated on one of the most beautiful parts of the South Coast, Glenmoor & Winton Academies are two successful, single sex academies that benefit from a shared campus and teaching staff.
With both academies judged as Outstanding, this is an excellent time to become part of the team.
A unified approach to teaching and learning is manifest across both schools with a Senior Leadership Team praised for their "pursuit of excellence for all students". The "shared determination to succeed at the highest levels" is apparent amongst both pupils and staff at these schools which, since becoming academies in 2013, have demonstrated significant improvement to create an "outstanding learning experience" for students.
As part of United Learning, the academies form a cluster of United Learning schools and academies in the area and work together with these and other schools to great effect. Partnerships are underway in terms of sport, teaching and learning, pupil experience and there is a strong focus on CPD for staff at all levels.
Testimonials
I am currently in my second year at Glenmoor and Winton, after completing my training year here at the Academies last year. For me, it was an easy decision that I would apply to remain at the Academies for my NQT year. The staff and students have all been nothing but welcoming since day 1. The transition to NQT year has been seamless and I feel fully and constantly supported by my colleagues and senior leadership alike. One of the best parts of working at Glenmoor and Winton for a new teacher is the commitment to CPD and the training programmes that are so comprehensive. I love being able to pick areas that I feel I want to develop in and attend CPD sessions with all levels of staff where we are supporting each other and encouraged to always try to look for new ways to improve our teaching. It is this dedication to keep pushing ourselves as teachers all the way through our careers that means that our students are being educated by the best teachers in the area, and I am proud to be one of them.
Katie Jones, NQT
This is my 12th year at Glenmoor and Winton academies and I have loved every minute. This place is very different from when I first started but the outcome has always been the same - high achievement and high standards and I have been along for the ride. I have had many opportunities to take on several middle management roles and been encouraged, supported, and mentored during each. I have had the pleasure of being a HOY for 7 years, Deputy in PE and my newest role Head of Department. Along with this I have worked closely with UL to produce resources and lessons for the United Learning hub. Without the opportunities I have had at the academies none of this would be possible as I have built confidence and improved subject knowledge through ongoing CPD and courses. We are always being challenged and pushed to be the best we can be, and I wouldn't want to be anywhere else. I often get asked will I ever leave Glenmoor and Winton? This is a very simple and quick answer – NO because of the staff but most importantly the students. The students at Glenmoor and Winton are what makes me the teacher I am today, and I am #GWPROUD.
Sarah Bowen, Head of Department
I have taught at Glenmoor & Winton Academies for five years. Throughout my time here I have seen leaders at all levels seek improvement for themselves and our students. Staff are encouraged to be reflective on their practice and responsive to the needs of our well-mannered and dedicated students. Personally, I have benefitted from the schools excellent CPD model; witnessing excellent practitioners at work and having the opportunity to discuss T&L on a daily basis. The model allows staff to progress at their own rates, with lots of support available throughout the year. Overall, I have enjoyed my time at the school and am proud to work at such a high performing institution.
Sam Lanahan, Lead Practitioner
I have worked at the Academies for 15 years and I have seen a huge change over the years especially when we became part of the United Learning team. The teamwork at the Academies is beyond belief, every member of staff has an important role and I believe we all care about each and every pupil. Working together we have created an atmosphere of dedicated learning. Pupils and staff all work together to achieve a fantastic outcome for themselves and others. I have always been lucky to be able to tell people I truly do love my job.
Sarah Peryer, Learning Coach
Since arriving at Glenmoor and Winton academies, I feel proud to work in a thoroughly inclusive school that truly strives to support and reward the individual students. Working at the academies over the past year has incrementally improved my personal development; I feel supported in each action as a teacher and am given every opportunity to better my teaching practice. The incredible pastoral and behaviour team bestow the necessary confidence for me to fully utilise the policies in the school; the effect on students’ learning is palpable and beneficial. As head of Ennis house, it is my privilege to work with students who are zealous and ardent about charity events and competitions – their enthusiasm is boundless. Not only this, but even the staff are perpetually driven to help students and get involved at every opportunity. Indeed, the academies work their very hardest to achieve the best for their students and I’m elated to say they succeed.
