Principal’s Welcome

Leon Lima, Principal

Welcome to Glenmoor & Winton Academies, where our vision is centred around "High Achievement, High Standards." Together, we are committed to upholding our core values of integrity, compassion, and courage. As Principal, my foremost priority is to ensure that every student departs as a well-rounded citizen, equipped with a diverse set of skills and experiences, having attained academic excellence.

Glenmoor & Winton Academies are renowned for their inclusivity, embracing the belief that every child matters, and every lesson is of utmost importance. We cater to the needs of all students, ensuring that our most capable learners are academically challenged while providing expert support to those with special educational needs and disabilities. This commitment allows us to bring out the best in each and every student.

Our Academies are truly unique due to the decision to co-locate them, while maintaining separate single-sex classrooms. This innovative approach has proven to be highly successful, with resources, staffing expertise, and curriculum opportunities maximised for the benefit of all our students. Co-location has been universally recognised as offering the "best of both worlds," providing our students with the most favourable conditions for educational success.

I am immensely proud and feel privileged to lead two of the highest-performing non-selective 11-16 schools in the country and to be a part of the United Learning multi-academy trust.

At Glenmoor & Winton Academies student progress continues to improve year after year. This progress is evident in the achievements of our students and the broader community, with Ofsted consistently rating both Glenmoor and Winton as 'Outstanding' in all aspects. The inspectors' report praised our unyielding focus on continual improvement, resulting in impressive results and progress rates well beyond the national average.

Our dedicated teachers are experts in their subjects, known for their innovation and willingness to explore new approaches to maintain the highest quality of teaching. The report commends our "universally high expectations" in teaching, ensuring that every student's needs, regardless of their ability level, educational requirements, or background, are met in the classroom. It has also been acknowledged our staff's commitment to providing a well-rounded and engaging education with character. This highlights our dedication to developing students' sense of self and their place in the modern world, offering a wide range of extracurricular opportunities beyond daily lessons to cultivate essential skills and attributes for success and wellbeing.

As Principal, I firmly believe that in addition to outstanding academic achievements, an education with character is equally crucial. Therefore, our students have access to a multitude of extracurricular opportunities, spanning sports, STEM (science, technology, engineering, and mathematics), expressive arts, student leadership, fundraising, house charity events, and a wide array of high-quality off-site educational trips to destinations like London, New York, France, Spain, and Italy, to name just a few. We also maintain strong links with local businesses such as JP Morgan and Barclays, as well as local and Russell Group universities such as Arts University Bournemouth (AUB) and the University of Exeter.

We actively encourage and value the support and contributions of parents and caregivers at Glenmoor & Winton. There are various ways for parents to become involved, including joining the parent association - SWAG (Society of Winton and Glenmoor). Further details can be found under our 'PTA SWAG' tab on the website.

I invite you to explore our website for more information and do not hesitate to reach out to the Academies if you wish to arrange a tour and witness firsthand the exceptional work being done by our outstanding students. To stay updated on our latest developments, please follow us on Twitter, Instagram, and access the Academies' newsletter.
